welcome to oscarfishlover

A photograph would be helpful if possible.

The first thing we would ask you to do is provide some water test results, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and pH. In many circumstances, poor water quality is the cause of many ailments amongst fish.

Until we can see a photo, it's very difficult to say what is wrong. Your fish may have some kind of bacterial infection of the skin.

Please also tell us what size tank you are using, and also the filtration system you have got.

Not a great photo so dont take what i say as the solution. To me this looks like they have been trashing about and hitting objects in your tank. I would say its miner damage and will heal if it dont get infected. Should heal fast say a week or so to notice a improvment. Do you have rocks or logs that they may hit if rushing around fighting??? you could try leveling anything that sticks up that they would bump. also mela fix will clear up damage if its this.
PS. your heading for trouble having 3 oscars in a 60g. sorry had to add that.

I agree with Marcus, it doesn't look very bad to me. It looks as though he might have knocked a few scales off, maybe bashed himself up against a rock. Just keep an eye on i and make sure it doesn't get any worse. Just keep the water in good condition for the time being.

Those are the equivalent of minor cuts and abrasions and as long as your ammonia and
nitrite are zero and nitrate are below 40 will heal very quickly. If they get infected
add any treatment that treats ulcers or fin rot
I can't get no sleep

i went to the aquarium store today to find out what they thought and they told me the same thign you guys have been telling me that it could be them fighting or bashing into stuff...so the guy there told em to put in some aquarium salt to help prevent infection and what not, also bought my self some water test strips.. anyone know what the reading should for everything?

strips are not as accurate as the liquid test but you should have an ammonia reading of zero, nitrites zero, nitrates below 40 and a stable ph of anything between 6.5 and 8. oscars can tolerate a wide ph range the only thing is to make sure that there is no sudden changes in the reading.you should also test your tap water to see what it is comming out of the tap.
as for aquarium salt some people use it and some dont. personally i would just keep the water pristine and forgo the salt however others might disagree with me.

some people swear by saltand always add it to their aquarium. Personally, I don't think it's necessary. Carry out regular water changesso as to keep those nitrate low, make sure you've got a healthy biological filter and cuts/abrasions/injuries should heal reasonably quickly.

remember that freshwater fish cannot live in salt water. There are a few exceptions, salmon, trout, eels etc but if you overdose your tank with salt, your Oscars are not going to like it.

i think salt will help your fish breath easier if its stressed as it dose something to the gills (helps oxygen produce)but for most other times i wouldnt use it, it wont do your fish any harm though.
