Hi all,

i've had my RTO "Blaze" for almost a year and he seems to be getting sick.

his behaviour and appetite have not changed so i am hoping to catch this early.

a few indents on the head i believe may be the start of HITH.

and the whiteish pink spot on his right fin has been there for months too, small. but now that its getting larger has me worried.

will link some pictures and hopefully you guys can give me some idea on what to do from now.

thanks
Timmo 'n' Blaze

Hi
I can't tell too much from your pics, but it looks like he might have a small case of hith b/c of his nostrils.
The best cure for HITH is to keep up with your water changes and keep a good diet going for him.
I also find that salt is a natural healing remedy if things get worse. API makes a good freshwater aquarium salt.
Hope that helps.

Water test

PH: Neutral.
Alkalinity: 30-40
Hardness: Hard
chlorine: 0
Nitrite: 0.5 - 1
Nitrate: about 40

Temp: 27 C

if this helps anybody's diagnosis

Hi
I think what the problem is your nitrates are way too high. They should stay below 10 if possible.
I would suggest that you do some large water changes very soon to keep the nitrates down.
Hope that helps.

your nitrates and nitrites are too high. also i didnt notice any ammonia readings. water changes will help in reducing your nitrates which if your oscar has hith should be kept as low as possible.(preferably below 20) i would recommed water changes of 25-30% every other day intil your nitrates are below 20 and also look into why you have a nitrite reading as this isnt healthy for you fish. if you do an ammonia test and get a reading i would look at your biological filter as it may not be up to the task of keeping your water clean.

also you should test the water comming from your tap to be sure that it doesnt have a high nitrate reading to begin with
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!
