TOPIC: Please Help!!!!!

Please Help!!!!! 3 years, 7 months ago #16897

I am new to this website but I really do need advice. I inherited an aquarium from my father who suddenly passed in January this year. I had an ich outbreak which killed all the fish. Since then I've drained the tank and put the gravel and etc outside on my patio for a week. I've recently put everything back in and filled it back up with water but I was planning on putting some aquarium salt in the tank and continuing the medication for another week should this be enough to kill of the ich or should I do more?

i take it you have no fish in the tank. if so stop medication and turn up the temputer to maximum. you will only need to have a very high temp to kill off any ich. dont put any fish back into your tank antill it has cycled. if you dont know about the cycle of a tank i would suggest you do a search on this site or ask for more info.hope this was of help.

Since you have emptied the tank and filled it back up with what I assume is fresh water, you will have eradicated the parasite that is responsible for ick. Ick, or white spot is normally introduced into an aquarium on infected fish. This is why it's so important to have a good look at the fish before you purchase it. Any reputable fish store will not sell infected fish anyway. The problem is, It can also be brought on by sudden changes in water temperature which causes stress.

The problem with buying new fish is they can look good, healthy and white spot free and then you put them in the tank and white spot develops. The best cure is to turn the temperature up to 30oc. Leave it this way for 6 days after the last spot has been seen and you will be cured of white spot.

White spot is very very easy to catch and nearly everyone has had a case of it at some time. Fortunately it is also extremely easy to get rid of and you dont even need to buy any meds (as described)

you can trasfer white spot with plants and anything else you put into tank. a lot of people miss this. i would go with 30c to make sure. if you do get a prob come back and ask for advice. white spot should not kill your fish, if you do the right things when you notice it,
