hi guys. Need a bit of help.
Notticed today my oscar has developed whits scales about 5 scales only on one side. He was fine yesterday. I have had him for 6 months with no problems. He is in a tank by himself and the water is fine. He seems fine. Eating well etc. Any ideas. Thanx

Okay, welcome to Oscar Fish lover. Firstly, we need to establish whether your water is in good condition. Without knowing, it's difficult to assess the situation properly. So if you could test your water for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH. Also, is it possible for you to provide a photo? Just going by your description isn't really going to give us much of an idea.

cant do any testing until tomorrow. I will try taking a few pics when he comes out of his ship!

no problem, if it's any a small area, shouldn't worry too much just at the moment. But please test the water, it's absolutely vital we know the readings

checked the ph. which was 7.
as for the other tests, i will be doing them tomorrow.

ok found out what was wrong.
my oscar had a fight with the thermometer in his tank and had cut himself when the outer glass casing broke.
he has pretty much healed now which is good.
done all the water tests and everything was fine so i done a closer inspection of the tank and contents. that when i found the broken thermometer

oscars are well known to break anything you put into your tank. i would protect your heater and any fragile items within reach of your oscars.
