My heater busted and i hadnt been aroudn to see it was gone. He was prolly without a heater for 7 hours. Whats his chances of surviving?
he has been gulping for air and acting strangely. i saw him go full white and change colour

you need to get a heater and warm his water. he might be alright if you can get the tempature back up to where it should be soon. however dont raise the temp to quickly just let the heater do the work slowly. i would keep an eye out for ick cause it can be brought on by colder water.
keep us posted on how your o is making out

i never had heater ever since. that is the advantage
of tropical country like mine. when i was a boy in the fish pond,
we usually lower down the level of water whenever the climate changes
from hot to cold weather. perhaps the concept is to increase the heat transfer
from the ground to the water. i don't know. i only realize that now.

I'm so sorry for you and your Oscar. As Paul I live in the tropics so I don't use heater (except in the Hospital tank for certain treatments as ich). I have read that it is a good idea to use two or three smaller heaters instead of only one, if one faulters, the other(s) would cover you. I use this same principle with filters. All my tanks has multiple filtration systems. Power outages are common in Santo Domingo so I get some protection going this way.
Hope you get another Oscar soon.

sorry to hear about your oscar. and yes a heater can be damaged if it is left on while out of the water. i make it a habit of always unplugging my heater before i do a water change. just remember to turn it back on when the water change is completed.

I am sorry to hear bout your Oscar too sad to hear.As for the heater aspect I have heaters that I just leave in the water while water changes but,if you take it out they automatically shut-off. I don't know what brand they are but, they were a hefty price but, they do the job whether I take them out or not they work perfectly!
