do a 25% water change, then do 10% ever other day. they sell things at the store to remove ammonia and nitrates, i have never used them, so i cant tell you how they work. what size is tank? what fish are in it? and how long have ya had it going? they also sell live bacteria to help re-establish your tank. and as far as your water being cloudy, thats a combination of the high ammonia and your tank not being cleaned.

personally i would go with a 50% water change asap then follow that up with 30% changes every second day. also i would reduce the feeding by about 50% this will also help with the ammonia problem. ammo lock is a product that is sold commercially to detoxify ammonia in an aquarium. as for the nitrates the constant water change will bring them into line rather quickly. continue with the water testing and water changes until your reading for ammonia and nitrites return to zero.

good luck

thanks for the reply fellas.

i have 2 tanks, both have high ammonia. the cloudy one has just been established so im guessing its still cycling and therefor not much bacteria.

will do those changes til its fixed.

I would follow necromancers advice, 50% then 30% sounds the best option to me. when did you last clean your filter?? and how do you clean it.? how long has it been cycling for.

if I may add, in case you can find any floating
lilies in you area, grab some and let them float
in your tank. it will help a lot in lowering your
ammonia, nitrate, & nitrite. plus your o's will
enjoy the young roots of those plants.

note: this is part of my experiment result. i do
have now a testing kit and happy to find out why
i survived with minimal water change......

hey guys tanks up date.

the 2.5foot cloudy one has been clearing up, i added gravel to it so more bacteria could be established.

the 3foot tank, well guppie fish are still dieing so iv been doing 50, 30 30 changes. its still bad, but getting better.

haha yeh paul i remember your test readings. everyeon was astounded! your Os are like big tanks.

i clean filters in fish tank water and cleaned it about 6 months ago. perhaps its time for a clean?

guppies are supposed to be sturdy fishes.
they thrived even in murky water but sensitive
with detergent.

7 years ago, i raised guppies in a tank without
any filter. all they had before was an air stone
and yet they survived and spawned. i was amazed then
that when they spawn, the offspring was ready to
swim upon release from the mother.
