Hello everyone, My oscar has seemed to destress quite well over the past two days...I am confident the water is up to par. I am in need of test kits though...money is a bit tight...He is responding nicely (like he used to before he was ill). He comes up to the tank glass and opens and closes his mouth quickly and does a little dance to tell me that he is hungry, I am so happy to see him back to normal after coming home from work today Well he has always been WILD over the Hikari floating pellets...But now, He HATES them...He eats one or two then spits them out and comes back to me for more food....I am kinda stuck here...I don't know what to give him...I would hate to buy a bunch of different expensive foods and find he doesn't like any of them...I have even tried lettace and cucumber....Nothing is working...Except the feeder goldfish....Any pointers? Thanks a million

oscars can become fussy with their food rather easily. for me it was with beefhearts. to cure this problem i went with the tough love approach and fed them pellets. after three minutes if they didnt eat them i removed the pellets from the tank and tried again the next day. after about a week of not eating their pellets the hunger finally got to them and they started eating normally. now they eat whatever i put in the tank for them.

also feeders have little nutritional value and are not recommended as food for your oscars. for live food you should try earthworms or crickets.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

I am with necromancer with this one, its a common thing. the only differance I would make is not feed at all for a few days and then try the pellets. But I dont see why boths ways would work. just dont give in and feed feeders an till its eating pellets.

If you have a garden and have not used pesticides earthworms make a cheap meal, but again with the bloodworm they can become hooked on this. mix the diet or you could end up with a expensive fish to keep.

one thing i have noticed in feeding.... you can make
the cycle from the start. as i go about my oscar addiction,
i am now feeding my oscar every morning only. the logic here
is that in case there is any problem, i have the whole day and
night to observed. moreover, my fishes become used to the cycle
so that whenever i open my door, they keep on splashing on the
tank begging for their breakfast.
