Hello guys, your not going to believe this one! Yesterday afternoon I FINALLY had ALL my readings spot on...Sand was nice and clean. Water was nice and clear...Perfect, Finally.
I went to sleep and woke up at 3:00am to the noise of my filter being excessively noisey...I got up quick to turn on the light to investigate the filter...Guess what I found!?!? My full tank was down 3 GALLONS!!!...So where did all the water go, you ask? Through the ceiling onto the second floor...The tank seal at the bottom right back seal broke..I quickly got my oscar set up in the emergency 10 gallon tank with his water and plants...He was fine...However the tank is toast. The store wouldn't give me credit for it and I wasnt happy with it anyway...SO...I just purchased a 75gallon tank with stand...I love it...I filled it and put the heater in...I am going to let it set up over night...Could someone please give me some advice as far as the best way to get him in there with it being well prepared...He is still in the 10 gallon until tomorrow....

were you able to save the remaining cycled water from the old tank as well as the filtering system? Some hobbyists do it gradually; using the salvage cycled water as seeding, utilizing the good bacteria from the existing filtering set up to expedite the cycling. add new water gradually every day until tank is full. it works for them, it will works for your too.

sorry about your problem but you need to make sure you properly cycle that new tank before putting our o anywhare near it...there are loads of great threads on here about tank cycling personaly i wouldnt put your o in his new home for at least a week even if you are using old tankwater thats pre cycled and an unwashed pre cycled mature filter .....but thats me hope this helps

1st make sure its level. its hard to do later. with 1 oscar and as you have lost your main tank I would add 1 large full bottle of "cycle" to the new tank.It will say it will treat 150g but add it all. add your fish plus filter and monitor the water conditions for ammonia, nitrites daily. over the next few days add more "cycle" with a view to add another full bottle over 2 wks. If you notice ammonia or nitrites any higher than 0.5 do a 50% water change and replace "cycle" that was lost. with 1 oscar you should get away with this ok in a 75g tank. main thing is to monitor for ammonia, nitrites every day if needed. its not as good as a full cycled tank but you dont have much choice. KEEP A VERY CLOSE WATCH FOR THE GUY THAT LIVES UNDER YOU. a fish smelling living room over xmas he is not going to be please.

I take it you treated the new water for chlorine. if not do so 1st.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.

Thanks for all your instructions, I am following through with them now...I just bought a 75 gallon tank, Marineland Emperor 400 filter, my Marineland Stealth heater from my 37 gal tank, my Tetra Whisper air pump from the not-so-old defective tank, and I was also told to buy the Penguin 1140 submersible power head. Right now, I have my Oscar in the 10gal with all his water from the old tank and he is content for the moment...I have him hooked up with a small heater, small air pump, and small Fluval underwater filter...I am following the instructions on the new Emperor 400 filter to allow filter to run in the new tank for no less than 24 hours before adding fish. So I have that going now, the powerhead, and the heater....I am very anxious about all the money I just spent...But I love this slightly new(5 months now) hobby!! :)I added the tap water conditioner as well to the new tank...SooOOoooOOoo...My question for you guys is...I am using silica based aquarium sand (expert at tropical fish store recomended it for oscars). So I was wondering what the best way for me to use the powerhead without drawing in sand from the bottom of the tank...OR should I just return the powerhead?....Thanks for your future advice

personaly i would hang the powerhead in the tank with a foam tube filter attatched to the intake to block particles and a hose conected to the output to some type of external filter box above the water level ,inside the hood say ,run the water out of the tank up into the filter box and then an exit hose from the box back into the tank i have used this method of aditional filtering many times you should find some examples on the diy section if you are using a 1000 lph powerhead you will be surprised at the ammount of aditional filtering you can acheive from this method ...........just a thought tho ................if you feel bad about all the bucks you just spent return it and you will feel a little better as the are not cheap..and this is only my opinion.
