Hi. I have a Tiger Oscar that's about 9 inches. He is in a 55 gallon with a Fluval 404 and just a pleco as a tankmate. I do weekly water changes. The problem is that he wont eat pellets anymore. The past month or so i have had an extra 10 gallon i have used to hold feeders for him. Also i have been giving him frozen foods that i bought for my blood parrots. I like to give him a balanced diet but now he wont touch the pellets. He will eat the frozen food as well as the feeders. It seems like he is being picky. I even got new pellets because i thought he might not like the other ones. Its now day three that i have only been trying ti feed him pellets. Sometimes he puts it in his mouth and breaks it up but then he spits it out but mostly ignors them when i put it right in front of his face. What should i do? Tough love and wait till he starts eating pellets? Let me know. Any input it appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Don't worry, you're not alone. It is extremely common for Oscars to suddenly start refusing a certain type of food. What I would do to begin with is to stop feeding for a couple of days. Get your oscar Really hungry and then try a couple of pellets at a time. I can't promise that will get your fish feeding on pellets again, but it is one method that does work sometimes. If it just won't eat one certain type of pellet, there are plenty of other foods available so don't worry, you may find he will eat them in a few months.

Reduced feeding is a good idea, remember in the wild fish have to hunt for their food, it doesn't get dropped in front of their noses.

oscar does refuse to eat from time to time.
but i suggest you take water readings to make
sure. precaution is better than cure. there are
times that water change is not enough particularly
if you are not sure if everything is running. there
might be a problem and yet you misdiagnose the symptom.

Or try feeding him different food such as feeders.

i will heavily discourage you from giving feeders for reasons outlined in many posts on here .....just slow down on the feeding or give him some locust or mealworm/river shrimp

Personally, I wouldn't use feeders either, this can lead to certain Cichlids refusing anything but live feeder's. Follow the above advice about reduced feeding, if that fails, try Tetra Doromin sticks. I have had two different fish refuse to feed, then when I swapped the Hikari Gold pellet for the Tetra Doromin, this was taken with great enthusiasm. I believe fish are like us, in that they easily get bored with the same old food.

30 UK gallon - South American community
25 UK gallon - Hospital/ Quarantine Tank.
