My Oscar has been getting really pail/gray, he stays this way for very long periods, . Sometimes he swims at a little bit of an angle.
The temp and water are proper, I feed him fd krill, fd baby shrimp, cichlid pellets, and sometimes frozen bloodworms.
I just cant track down the info. I would be very thankful for any help.
Thanks

can you post your water readings ammonia nitrites and nitrates as well as the temp in your tank and any tankmates you ahve in there with him. these will help in determining what might be the problem.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

Water readings are as follows
Ammonia > .1
Nitrite > .1
Nitrate > 10
Ph is right at 6.8
Temp is steady at 76 degrees F
Tank mates are a common plec about 6 to 8 inches. A cory about 2 1/2 to 3 inches. And a few assorted snails.
They seem to get along just fine. I noticed a small gash on him this morning so I'm guessing he banged his head on something ( wouldnt be the first nor last time)
He is just pale and sometimes swims at an angle. He used to more brightly clored but is kinda grayish and pale. He is constanly this color, sometimes it is a little darker. He's about4-5 inches, maybe six inches.
I do water changes often enough. Right around 20% a week, plus gravel vacuuming.
Diet consists of fd krill, fd baby shrimp, occasional frozen blood worms, cichlid pellets, and I'm on my way to the pet store for some crickets and meal worms.

hi there ....ALL OSCARS frequently change colour ...they have massive variations in colour depending on lighting and mood etc you may notice big changes especialy, when you turn the lights on or the O is close to the glass and when you have room lighting on he will lighten in colour a lot ...oscars are renowned for being chamelion type colour changers and im sure all the oscar keepers on the forum will confirm this as it is common knowlege amongst oscar keepers ......i dont appreciate being called OH WIZE SAGE!! whan i am trying to help you ....after all sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.........

hope this helps..........

your ammonia and nitrites need be at zero. if your doing 20% water changes once a week increase it to 20% every second day until your readings are in line. one of the reasons oscars get pale in colour is stress. this can be brought on by poor water conditions. fix your water and then see if your oscar changes back to his original colouring.

also what size tank his he in and what are you using for filtration.
