i need some advice on how to treat it before it gets out of hand he only has one or two spots now but need to know what to do before it gets out of hand

i have some ick guard that i bought at meijers for my gold fish Jungle brand
i need to know if this will work for manson he is a jevinal oscar and he is my baby the active ingredants are victoria green,nitrimersal,acriflavine

welcome to the site.

the first option, i suggest you give us water parameter:
ammonia ? nitrite? nitrate? pH? Temp?
tank size? tankmates?

if data is not possible, i suggest to do the immediate
water change, say 30%, set temp at 80 degrees F, dose
pure salt (tablespoon/25 gal) to enhance oxygenation,
and ripple the discharge of your pump to create aeration
in the tank.

pristine water is the first defense in any fish illnesses.

i changed the water the other day when i added the dimpsie the tank is 40 to 50 gallons there are 3 other Oscars and a dempsie all are small the person at the pet store said that they would be OK in that tank until they got bigger none of the fish are bigger than an inch and a half but will change tank in the morning should i add some of the ick stuff or no my goldfish had it and i cleared it right up


I just looked at the temp it is at 80*

first thing first: you have an issue on tank size. 50 gallons is way to
small for 3 oscars plus tank mates; you are over stock.


since you do not have data on water parameters, you can try medication, no harm in trying to treat the ick.

lfs usually tell their customer that every thing is okey to encourage people to buy more stuff: fishes, meds, etc.

getting a 90gl tank should be here next month got to get a chim testing kit

turn the temp up to 86 degrees and add aquarium or pure sea salt with no anti caking agents 1 teaspoon per 5 uk gals leave for a week then 7-10 days then slowly return your temp to 80 degrees and carry out a 50% waterchange ....your ick WILL be gone!!!!!!!!!

if you guys have a disagreement on a subject could you please use pm's to settle the dispute. i personally dont want to see this kind of behaviour and i am probably not alone. both of you guys are very knowledgeable fishkeepers and imho are valued member to this forum. we all have different opinions on topics and i always thought the idea of a forum was to view these ideas and learn from them.

i have nothing but respect for both of you and i find this bickering somewhat annoying and disturbing.

i totally agree with OFL. we could have different opinion in a
healthy discussion along the way, without being hostile on one
another. what works for me may not works for others, so its up
to the reader to decide on what to follow.
