I think you should put the medications.. also it would be good if you can do a complete water test and post the results here...
If it doesn't kill you, it only makes you stronger...

The heat treatment usually works fine. If you really want though, you can use medications too (make sure it has copper and/or malachite blue), it won't hurt.

hey

i dont know if this is against the rules to jump on others posts, but i didnt want to make a new thread about the same issue. or is it better next time to?

my new oscar just got ick! hes had it for 2 days now.

iv done 20% water changes and will continue to do it every second day. iv also added about 3 table spoons of salt in there and raised temp to 29 degrees. however my tank temp is only 25.

water parameters

nitrites 0
ammo 0
nitrates <40

im not sure why he has ick. maybe stress from water changes before.

hes not very active,. just hiding in the corner.

do i need to be concerned.? my water isnt as hot as it should be.

eTwee
2.5ft 5cm ELN turtle
4ft planted community tank. tetras, guppies, plecos, bristlnenose
7ft oscar tank with tilapia and convict

Yes its always best to start your own post. if some people have read this post they may not see your post, but dont worry now.

when I first started keeping aquarium fish I had a few ick cases. this was because I missed a few simple things that are easy to put right.

1) I never heated new water when I done a water change. always try to heat new water or add cold water very slowly.
2) make sure any new items, ie plants, fish are not infected.
3) keep your water in tip top condition ALWAYS.

I would treat your problem the same as above. do a large water change to make sure your water is in good condition. up temp to 28c, add salt, add white spot curer. don't do a water change while you treat unless your water becomes poor. keep check on water conditions at regular intervals If you do need to do a water change during treatment add meds to new water to replace those removed.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.
