This is my young Oscar, his name is Casino and he has a white growth on his face and near his lungs and on his sides. We just did a 50% water change and they've only been in the tank a little over a week. The nitrates are good, everything is. We have 3 filter running in a 180 gallon tank, 2 Rena filters and one Diatom. I added 2 flower pots for caves last night but Casino was already showing signs of the fungus. He has a mate ( I think she's female) named Jackpot a lovely golden color and there are 2 Green Terrors and 2 Silver Dollars plus one pleco. All are getting along fine, no fights or anything and he has no wounds. He's still eating well but I just looked at him again and the fungus is on his anus now. If anyone can help me please give your advice, he was a gift from my husband, we got the large tank just for them and I desperately don't want to lose him.

Your pic has not work. use "photobucket"

fungus is related to poor water, as is most diseases that fish suffer. can you post the results of the full range of test you have taken. this needs to be for
Ammonia
nitrites
nitrates
PH.
Without addressing this first would mean that treatment maybe a wast of time as the problem is still present?
also what other fish, size are in the tank?
how long has it been setup?

if it is straightforward fungus "melafix" would be a good treatment. but if you are not sure then its best to re post the pic as treating for the wrong illness may mean a long delay in the right treatment.

hi, the water is fresh, we did a 50% the day before this started and we have three filters on the tank (180 gallon)
Ammonia is 0 so is nitrates. He's in with a female oscar, 2 Green Terrors and 2 Silver Dollars and 1 pleco. Everyone else is fine except for the male GT but that's a different situation....he's had waste hanging from his belly for a week now and hasn't eaten at all that we've seen, not since we got him a week ago today. He has energy and follows the female constantly except at feeding time then he hides.
I sent pics to OFL in email, not good ones cause I can't make him hold still
The tank has been up for about a month now, we put the fish in last week. I hope some of this info helps you figure out whats wrong. Maybe OFL could email you the ones I sent him? I can't seem to post pics here at all. Thank you for your help

If you have a spare tank (hospital tank)I would remove him for treatment. this has 2 benefits. it makes treatment cheaper and removes the chance that he will infect other fish. have you joined "photobucket" and uploaded your photo there? there is a post about "how to" in the home page. top left.

Can you describe the look and texture. Is the fungus like cotton wool, raised?
or holes?

like cotton, I have some Melafix I just have to take the carbon out of the filters. I'll keep you posted on how it works.

You may also try Pimafix as well.

I would be trying some kind of fungal remedy to see if that works. The longer it goes on, the greater chance of other fish have of picking it up. Unfortunately, rather like human beings and any other animals, close examination is about the only way of determining exactly what is causing this and what the best remedy for it is. Easy if you've got a dog or cat, not with a fish

as marcus said the fungus can be treated quite effectively with melafix..but as for the gt..it seems it could be internal parasite..but i would hang fire untill we get the pics on here....also the tank only been running for a month concerns me as a full cycle takes 40 days to complete and if you have only recently added fish your cycle has not started yet..as you need the fish to produce the ammonia in order for the cycle to start ..an empty tank can run for a year and still not be cycled!!!!!!!! the process wont start untill you add fish..so please tell us when you first added fish to your tank /date.....and when you first filled your tank....even if you used a seeded filter with 100% clean new water the ammo would take so long to build up the bacteria colony could decrease in size or even die off........please post us your water parameters as marcus asked for then we can see whats going on in your tank as without them we are working completely blind and your problem could be a multitude of things......
