Help/advice needed please - the mouth on my red oscar is lob-sided!
the only way i can describe it is he looks like he's had a stroke!!
the mouth is open and the lower jaw hangs to the right, just lately he's been jumping and hitting the underside of the tank lid - could this have caused the problem? Apart from that he seeems ok and feeding as normal
Has anyone else encounted the same/similar problem?
I hope im not fearing the worse

If indeed he has been jumping and hitting the side of the tank, he might of damaged his jaw slightly. Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do about that apart from hope it will correct itself.

might have solved the mystery!
just had a conversation with my son(off from uni) and said the 2 o's have been lip-locking all week!! perhaps that may have caused this!
how stupid of me not to realise although i do work all day and my son says thats when its been happening
had them both at the same time so both the same size (about 2")
they seem to get along fine so do you think they are 'playing ' or sizing each other up? no other visible injuries

Certainly sounds feasible. Oscars can cause each other some real nasty injuries when they fight, even if it's just the breeding ritual. What you've got to do is ascertain whether its aggression, or indeed just Oscars doing what Oscars do on occasions. If its aggression, I think it will be fairly obvious. If they hang around with each other and seem friendly than you probably might have too much to worry about. Just be aware that every now and then, they do have their mad moments and sometimes do end up with superficial injuries.

with this size, they are just sizing up who is the boss. mating ritual is very far from reality.

presently i have two small oscar, Survivor and PinHole, about 2" both. i have seen Survivor attacking PinHole making the latter hid e under the pump. Survivor even bullied the big angel fish.... first time for me to see such
bully small oscar.

as long as he/she is eating and active, it will heal itself.
