Hi I was not on this board in a long time I have a Oscar like 6 years old her one eye looks like it went blind does this happen with old age?
the eye when you look at a normal Oscar eye you see the pupal section raised in the eye like black colored and hers looks like the pupal turned like it is ice looking like plastic wrap not the rest of her eye just the pupal part ?

Any help will be great.

THANKS

It's not uncommon for Oscars to have eye problems. This could be due to injury, poor water conditions or illness. The best thing to do if you notice problems of the eyes is to check your water conditions. Check the pH, make sure it's not too low, or too high. It's good between six and eight. However, your Oscar six years old, that's quite a good age for a fish.

I've had Oscars before that have developed a cloudy film over their eyes after being transferred into a new tank. I think it could be something to do with different water conditions may be, the eyes are quite sensitive and therefore can be affected quite easily. If the fish has been exposed to poor water conditions then sometimes illnesses can develop later in life. This could be the case with your fish, I'm not suggesting you don't look after it properly, or you don't clean the tank properly, but it's just something that could be causing this to happen.

There are medications for cloudy eyes, not sure how well they would work, you could certainly look them up at your fish store and see if they help.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

Hi the fish is 6 years old I never had a problem with it, It's eye is not cloudy it's only the inside pupal part that is looking like ice or plastic wrap only the black inside part of the pupal?

Thanks

your fish seem to be seeing thing...if you will notice, the eyeballs still moves around.
if it is like cataract, perhaps, it was just an ammonia burn when there was ammonia spike...

here is my blind lutino... look at the eyes...

Hi it is not on the outside clear lens of her eye it is on the inner black pupal in her eye only.
that's why I don't get what it could be?
