Chilli created the topic: CATFISH DISEASE WITH OSCAR ? !
Hi everyone
I recently purchased a Salmon Tail Catfish to be a tank mate with my Oscar, they have gotten along great since I got him. Except today I woke up to find the Catfish Slime Coat was coming off. Went to my LFS and they recommended salt. which I put in. Now I've noticed 2 sores that sorta look like ulcers on each side of his mouth right next to his whiskers. My Oscar seems fine at the moment, and I thought the catfish might be stressed due to the recent move. If anyone has any recommendations that would be great. I don't have a spare filter otherwise I would of already put the catfish in another tank.
Ammonia - 0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 20ppm
Attached is a pic of the catfish
Sorry this about catfish and not Oscar but just want a healthy tank
Thank You

I've no suggestions re the slimecoat or ulcers, sorry, I'm sure someone will have something to offer.
Your water parameters look fine but I have to ask; how big is your tank? Your catfish will be edging towards 3 foot long when it reaches maturity. Add that to a 14 inch Oscar and you have yourself a massive bioload requiring huge tankspace and filtration.

I have a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft, filter is more then capable to handle the bioload, but I don't intend to keep the catfish forever just want to keep him alive at this stage and not affect my precious O

I get a lot more complements already having him in the tank a lot of people don't see these catfish and they have a cool vibe to them hoping he pulls through
