I am having a problem with one of my two Tiger Oscars but I have no idea what is going wrong. Here is my information and I will attach a picture. I am not sure if is an injury caused by fighting and if it is what I should do about it. Please help I am a new Oscar owner and could use it. Thank you.

nitrite - 0
pH - 7.1

-Tank-mates
One other Tiger Oscar (3.5")

My apologies for the double post the picture quality is horrible but it is the largest that I could attach. The white spot in question is just behind the fin on the side shown in the picture. There are also about 4 on the other side that look the same.

It is a fungus. You can heal it with Melafix which you can get at Walmart or almost anywhere for pets. Turn his heat up to 80F and make sure he has plenty of air in the water. Do the full cycle the medicine bottle wants and he will be fine. I came here with the same problem and the Mods here saved me

your right, pic is poor )))) never mind I know how hard it can be to get a good close up. There is a very good chance it is fungus and as already said melafix will do the job of curing it. melafix is fairly good for a lot of minor problems so even if it turned out to be wounds from bashing things in the tank you will still have the right treatment.) Can you describe what the texture is like?? cotton wool? raised? indents?

Yeah, again sorry about the poor picture quality. I have treated for an entire week and even remembered to remove my carbon out of the filter. Still having the same problem though and it seems as one heals another forms somewhere else. I dont know how to best describe the texture, its almost as though the scales are coming off and it leaves a slimy white patch. I am not too sure what to do and was planning on a 25% water change tomorrow along with a good cleaning. Any help or other suggestions you could provide would be really appreciated.

fish that had been exposed to bad water condition will show sign of infection gradually. when you start medication, there would be some point in the body that will develop same sign one by one until the body recovers the lost immune system. that is when you start water change, give some medication , and feeds good varied foods.

slimy white patches are the first defense against any fungus infection. but if not check properly, it will develop into craters.
just do the regular water change, increase the temp and add more air stone to aerate the water.

you are quite right on that melafix is used primarily for cuts and abrasion ect.. and primafix is used generally for fungal infections

Okay so I guess I will try the primafix after I do my weekly water change and gravel cleaning. My water has always been pretty good, sometimes my ph gets up to 7.6 but everything else is perfect (I have been keeping it around 81 degrees F while I have been medicating.). I use a fluval 305 and have a biowheel to keep my good bacteria as well as a large air stone. I feed them all kinds of different things, fresh shrimp, freeze dried shrimp, worms for treats, and I use the Oscar grow food pellets. I am not sure what I am doing wrong if anything but if anyone can suggest something that I could do better I would really appreciate it.
