Hello everyone. I have been reading this site for a few weeks since I bought my oscar. I have been meaning to join sooner but was putting it off. I just now joined since I looked at my oscar today and something concerned me. He has tiny little spots on his eyes that appear to be white in color and the size of a spec of dust. He doesn't appear to have them anywhere else and none of the "ICH" photos I have seen seem to match him. Can ich just form on the eyes and in that fashion or does it seem as if it is something else? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Ick looks like grains of salt. I've not really had much experience with fish having this parasitic infection but if you're fish has got it, I would expect there to be cysts on other part of the body, not just the eyes. I think it's going to be very difficult for you to get anywhere near good enough photo to show this. I assume that you have done a water test? Just rule out poor water conditions first.

Before you start panicking, just keep a check on it for a couple of days, it will either get worse and then you can take immediate action, or it will start improving, or may just stay the same. There are certain conditions that can cause problems with eyes, internal parasites, pour water conditions. However, it's not easy to diagnose over a forum.

Thanks OFL for the quick response. I will keep a close eye on him and go from there since it doesn't appear to effect his eating or behavior. You are right about the spots being hard to identify through a picture. They are tiny like dust. Anyway, thanks again and I'll post a follow up soon if anything changes.

Just wanted to post a follow up. My oscar's eye spots are now gone. I did a good water change and they cleared up fast. I will now keep a closer eye on his water conditions to be safe.

If you don't already have one, get yourself a liquid water test kit!! They make life so much easier!

nice to know your fish had recovered. Just keep your water in
good condition and it won't come back.
