TOPIC: need advice on this one

need advice on this one 2 years, 11 months ago #40132

Before I moved my oscars into the main tank, I moved all of the previous residents or so I thought. I missed one of my corydoras and when I checked the tank this morning my albino was swimming about with it stuck in its mouth. The corie was well and truly lodged so I managed to net the Oscar and remove half of its intended meal but the rest is still stuck in there and my Oscar cannot close its mouth at all. It is still swimming about but with its mouth wide open.

Any advice on how to deal with this one as I feel really bad about it because I should have removed all of the other fish first.

i have no idea how to deal with this one. if it is really stuck and it is dangerous to your O to try and remove, then it is probably best to get the advice of a vet.

some-one else may have an idea though.
other pets are my colt (Freddo Frog), my staffy (Tank) and my boxer x,(Steph)

We had another member a little while ago that had a similar problem. they managed to remove a stickleback using a pair of fishing forceps, long nose pliers will do. if you are not sure I wouldn't recommend it and if you have any friends that are keen fishermen they will be a good bet as they will be familiar with this sort of thing, Oscars are use to eating large items and there is always the chance it will pass through without problem. is the fish distressed??

If you do try to remove try to work out how it fitted in there rather than pulling. dont use force.

wish i was close by, as a certified surgeons assistant with loads of "tools of the trade".
But thats no help for now.
The corry will stick out its spines when treathened and they get stuck.
Get someone with good gear, plier, small forceps and some expierience, prefeably.
Sorry im so far of.
would have loved to help.
