me and my partner were sitting in the lounge watching telly and we heard a giant wave noise... didnt know what it was at first, but didnt take long to think of the fish.. i didnt want to go out and see them flapping on the ground so i was hesitant to pick them up... bf had to do it... the tank was completely empty and our 2 O's, angel and shark were all flapping on the ground, got the Os first and put them in a bucket (im a bit ashamed to admit i forgot about the angel and shark for a second)
had to fill up a 2 ft tank with fresh water... (couldnt get any from the big tank)
i put some of their gravel in there as well as their old filters....
sorry this so long but its a big disaster...
well my tiger dosnt look to bad... almost seems to be begging for food still, very lively, with only a few scales missing..
my lutino on the other hand was a first bleeding a little from the mouth and over one side of his head has gone red (from blood) im not sure if this is a bruise or if those scales are missing???
he also seems to be breathing a bit abnormally, and not quite as active as the tiger... though really they both should be sitting on the bottom after that shock... but they are still moving around...
not that they have much room in the 2 ft... they are both nearly 10 inches and are used to their big 6 fter.... also they are sharing with the angel and shark.
i have another tank i can set up for the angel and shark though.... i might do that tomoro, till i can get a piece of glass to fix the broken tank
i will try to get a pic but atm my camera isnt working...
any suggestions to help them survive this ordeal???
my lutino dosnt look that great although the tiger seems ok

sorry to hear your problem. lets hope all ends well. at least your carpet had a good wash)))))))
1st your oscars should be ok. they are very strong fish and can survive a few bumps. what concerns me is in you hurry did you dechlorinate the new water before you added the filters? or is there a chance you have lost your cycle. if you are sure this isnt a problem you should cope ok. I would leave out the gravel as the tank is small and having a clear bottom would aid in keeping it clean. you will need to do a few water tests over the next few days to keep check of things and maybe water changes. you could also feed them very little until you are back up and running. I would also add a little extra water dechlorinator as most contain a stress/protective coating that may heal the fish. other than that you need to get back up and running asap. Lastly after washing the carpet it will need another wash as fish water will make it smell. sorry you really do have a pain of a job on your hands. any idea why your tank broke? check the level before you refill.

thanks for the quick reply
i will add extra dechlorinator, will definently be doing alot of water changes till the other tanks fixed...
i will also try not to feed them to much, though this can be hard
luckily i had my tank set up in an outdooor patio area just outside the back door, so the water went through the planks to underneath the house.... no carpet was damaged (luckily)
the tank had a tiny crack in the bottom corner but i hoped it wouldnt break... it didnt leak water and it was only a tiny crack and the glass is thick...
btw.... i only put a few handfuls of gravel in just so they had some extra bacteria... cos i had to put all new water in the tank

You are so lucky you had your tank outside hun, can you imagine the damage that would have been done to your house??? I have a chip of glass missing from the front of my big tank where the 2 panels meet and I watch it constantly. 180 gallons of fish water breaking loose upstairs would be horrible, I really think the floor would collapse and all of our computers are in here plus the breeding tank. Does anyone know of a way to reinforce the chip?

very lucky the tank was outside...
i still cant beleive the boise it made, it sounded like we were right next to the beach.
this morning the fish seem to be over the shock and all seem to be doing ok.
i though i was definently going to lose my angel, its getting old, but seems to be pulling through...
Lutino's scratches dont seem so bad this morning, i think he nose dived the floor when the tank broke.
although the tiger has a few more scales missing than i first thought, hes still not too bad.
has anyone had this happen before? did their fish pull through?

I have never had a tank break but I have had fish jump out of the tank. And they were able to pull through. Just keep an eye on them.
So Sorry to hear about this. I know it sucks.

in all my years of keeping fiah i have only had one incedent and like nicki it was a fish who jumped from the tank. it was my female jag and fortunetly she came through the ordeal without any damage.
i hope things work out for you and remember to keep an eye on your water parameters
sorry i just remembered that once my chinese algea eater went for a ride through the overflow to my sump but he also make a full recovery from his trip
