Ok first of all why do you have to move them?

How long has tank #1 been set up? What filter does it have?

Ok if you move the old filter to the new tank, you will be ok.. I could also suggest that you do a large water change on the current tank and then check the water. They may be safe in there...

How bad was the water? What were the readings?
Do you have your own test kit?

If put your old filter on your new tank, they should be ok... The old filter will help cycle your tank faster... If you can possibly put about 20% of the old water in the new tank that too will make it easier on your fish. But as long as you USE THE OLD FILTER you should be fine...

But I strongly suggest you get a LIQUID WATER TEST KIT asap... Then you can test your own water.. The problem is most LFS have no freaken idea what they are doing... And they are wrong on water tests more than they are right. I hope that is not the case here...

As for moving them, as long as the tanks are about the same temp, you can net them out of one tank and place them in the other... No need for a bag...

now they are roaming about and coming up top.
i put bout 20% water over and sum of the fake plants etc...etc.
only problem is the old tanks filter was a undergravel type rigged with ammonia pads and is way to short and small 2 run in this new tank......so what??????? chuck it in there anyways??? thanks heap fpr thios, its been a great help.

I have no idea about those filters... Them hiding is normal... They will adjust. You need to get a test kit so you know that your water is ok, or when to do a water change... Especially with an incomplete cycle...

Wouldn't a water change in the old tank have been the best move? Yes use the old filter anyway, something is better than nothing, with the water from the old tank you should be ok for a while. Would it be possible for you to get a canister filter? It would take a while to get it cycled but most everyone here will agree that they are well worth the price. I couldn't live without mine. Please keep us posted on how they're doing and by the way...welcome to our family
If you can't beat them...arrange to have them beaten!
