TOPIC: My oscar is severely injuring itself!

My oscar is severely injuring itself! 2 years, 9 months ago #47646

So, I have an albino oscar that we rescued about 3 yrs ago. He was already full grown when we got him and We don't know how old he was. We had another oscar in the tank with him for about 2 yrs but the other one passed away. So he's been alone in a 90 gallon tank for awhile now. For about the last year and a half, we've noticed that he seems to be getting slower. He's not very active at all anymore and just hangs out in one spot most of the time. We assumed he must just be getting old. But he still eats and he still looked healthy. Then a couple of wks ago, we noticed a huge chunk was missing from his lower lip. Every once in a while, he, for no aparrent reason to us, will suddenly thrash around in the tank. We can hear him splashing and hitting the sides of the tank. But we never seem to be in the rm when he does it. I thought that maybe he just hit one of the large tank decorations when he thrashed around and we waited for it to heal. It did start healing, but then one day it got even worse. He just keeps injuring himself. Now it's so bad that both his upper and lower lips are missing huge chunks and the chunks are so big that its exposing bone. We know that its not a parasite because it will start to heal and then he'll hit it again and it gets worse. I just have no idea why he's doing this. And I have no clue how to help him. If anyone has any information I would really appreciate it.

Have you tested your water and can you please post the results?

X2 test and post water results please. Have you checked for any small parasites, white spot ,velvet etc. some of these can be easy to over look if you are use to seeing your fish. a very small change may go unnoticed.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.
