TOPIC: Help! I think my Oscar has an infection

Help! I think my Oscar has an infection 2 years, 9 months ago #50124

My black tiger oscar is about 10 inches long and about five days ago it developed a red sore on its chin. Now his fins are beginning to tear. He is still eating and swimming around although he is not as active as usual. I also have one other tiger oscar in the same tank as him who is about the same size and one albino pleco. I perform weekly water changes of about 35% and the water tests are coming out fine. I am not sure if I should just continue with daily water changes and aquarium salt or if I should remove him from the tank and treat him with something else. Any help with figuring out what is wrong with him would be appreciated thanks.

No he just keeps swimming around the tank slowly. He has not tried moving around the gravel and has not rubbed against anything.

Welcome to the site

Firstly, please use photo bucket to add photos to the forum. I don't know what format you uploaded your file in, but I cannot open it.

Does the red sore looked like a pimple? If so, this is quite normal for Oscars to develop these.

As for the fins, they are very delicate and can be easily damaged. If it just looks like damage then they should grow back fine. if the edges get fuzzy white stuff developing then it could be an infection of some kind. I don't think there is any need to remove the fish from the tank just a moment. If you could post an image that would help us

Umm....the image is a little bit fuzzy but it looks like your fish has got hole in the head disease. See what other people think?

Pleco's often suck at O's as they sleep, look closely and see if it looks like suction. Pleco's are not good tankmates as they're active at night while your O is asleep. Good luck to you and welcome to OFL

Its difficult to tell from the pic because its a bit small and when enlarged it is fuzzy but im with OFL and necromancer, its looks like HITH. Can you test the water and post the actual results please
