oh oh!!! why? what happen?

early stage of HITH is easy to cure and will eventually leave no marks
at all. however, cratered HITH will leave marks and may stays longer.

do you have carbon pack in your filtering system? can you post
picture? what is your present water parameters?

It depends on how bad the HITH is. If you catch it early it can heal without scarring, however bad cases can leave scarring. Its a bit like cutting yourself, if its a small minor cut it heals with no sign of scarring, but a big deep cut leaves scarring

yes i do have the carbon in my filter sir paul and i have been using it for almost a year.and i really think this is about my water parameter so i bought an additional biological filter aside from my canister filter rated for 425 gallons. my tank is only 120 gallons by the way.i have 2 oscars and one has it and the other one which is a little smaller is fine the extent of the HITH as i can describe is small in size like a pinpoint and not that extensive.i only noticed it after i looked closely as i usually does..i also have 6 silver dollars which shows no sign of disease. i bought salt for aquarium yesterday and im planning to add1 tsp every 5 gallons as what is posted. i will also monitor my water parameters and remove the carbon. i might as well not turn on the lights of the aquarium at night because i noticed that my silver dollars as well as my O's begin to swim as though they are threatened. i think from this time on i will give 500% attention so that my oscar will heal up and will not catch the same and other disease.more power to you all and i will definitely keep you posted.

remove it immediately. carbon has useful life and should be replaced
regularly. using them beyond their useful life will just cause leaching
back to the tank the toxin they had collected in time.

are you sure it is a HITH? a picture will help us help you evaluate your situation.
where is it located? pinholes between the eyes and upper lip is normal....

Carbon should only be used to remove medication or other harmful substances.

Carbon that is not thoroughly washed out before use in an aquarium will leech carbon dust, which is thought to be harmful to fish.

And even if you do wash it out, it is still of no use except during medication removal, etc. In fact, it will slowly remove various nutrients and vitamins from your water.

This can in turn be a cause for HITH.

Also, please let us know what your water parameters are. By this i mean your readings for Ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte. Also pH. Usually HITH is caused by excess nitrates.

Diet can also be issue. What are you feeding your oscars?

i'll post the pics later sir paul..unluckily i dont have my cam here yet..it has some small holes in where our ears are located and above and in between the nostrils. ihave never seen this holes before.but i just presumed it is HITH because of the pics provided in the thread by sir OFL(if im not mistaken).though it is not that extensive i plan to treat it at an early stage. adding another biological filter(i put only ceramic rings) i think, will be beneficial in the long run and will prevent other diseases. ill remove the carbon now.do you think i should start putting 1tsp of salt every 5 gal now?

@artemis
ill keep you posted on my water parameters maybe tomorow..im feeding my oscar superworms

there are times that untimely medication is a waste of time and resources
and wouldn't help at all. there are some medicine that will make your fish
lost appetite and would not eat for a few days. that will reduce the immune
system. i would prefer to keep my water in tip top condition and feeds with
varied foods. prestine water is the first defense of fishes against any diseases.

that would make sense but make sure you have not applied salt before.
too much salt is also dangerous.
