It is broken and I need to figure out if I can fix it or just buy a new one. The big problem is the temperature is measured in tick marks. http:\\

Heaters aren't really that expensive, you'll be better off getting a brand-new one

Its not that its broken, I just don't know why it won't stay on, how much the stupid tick marks are worth, or who makes it!

Sorry, I misunderstood you. What is your tank size, and what power are the heaters, in wattage?

Does the light on the heater come on every now and then and then turn off?

What is the temperature of your water?

The light does turn on and off. It only stays on for 10 seconds at a time. Water temp is 70 after sleeping with my windows open.

Okay, I suspect that everything is okay. Let's say you've got 10 notches, which notch is the heater set on? the fact that the light is coming on indicates that the heater is working okay. If the heater is set at around 22°C then it will turn off when the water gets to this temperature and then turn back on when the water drops down in temperatures slightly, rather like a radiator will work. You certainly don't want to have the heater that stays on all the time whatever the temperature, that would be ludicrous and extremely expensive.

The heater actually only turns on when set at the highest setting. When my tank dropped to 69 degrees, the heater still didn't turn on unless it was all the way high.

please check the cut-out and cut in temp setting, that is where
you thermometer will set on and off. there must be two setting
otherwise it will not function properly. keeping on when setted
to the highest will also stop once the desired temp is attained
but when there is no cut-in point, i will never start again
