Just as luck would have it..............

Yesterday,i set up a hospital tank with some water from my main tank water change. My brother brought me a texes that his Jack dempsie was picking on.(melaflix, salt, and warmer water)
The Texes is doing a lot better already(that i can tell) or at least seems to be.
....

Ocsar Now.

Ok,so last night i turned a lamp on to check the Texes and noticed my 3 inch Ocsar(my favorit one) sleeping as usaul,,and My crayfish going towards him(my crayfish just moulted again,,and is getting pretty big),,then just after i turned lamp back off,,i heard my oscar spashing and racing around the tank.

I figure my crayfish pinched my oscar,,but through the night i heard this a few times more,,and my oscar seems to have done these violent outbreaks maybe up to 4 time since the first one.

I have seen some fish do this before,,then die:(

after what i think was a pinch from crayfish,,i noticed my oscar breathing heavy(ans still asleep, kinda),,i thought maybe,,he got pinched in gills,or face(i do not see no marks)

but his breathing has not been the same since,,,Plz keep in mind,,at lights out last night he was very normal happy go lucky...

any idea's at all guys would really help..

thank you
Ric.

my oscar freaks out in the night as well sometimes, and i wake up to find him cornering a smaller fish trying to eat it or just plain being wierd. there has been many a time ive thought about relocating my tank away from my bed because there has been several times i got an unasked for bath in the night.

it did that fairly regular untill i took my electric yellow out and put it in a tank by itself, now my oscar sleeps at night and doesnt give me a bath nearly as often.

is there anything in there small enough it might consider food?

i believed your sleeping oscar was poked by the caryfish. a plec can also do
the same. when someone poke an sleeping oscar, it will dart away unmindful of
what lies ahead, to the extent of injuring him/her self. in some instances,
they hurt themselves to hard and die....

crayfish are relentless if they are hungry. i had one in my koi tank for quite some time untill i observed it finning my fish in the night. it would pinch a bit of fin off and eat it. very small pieces at a time. you might look closely at his fins and if there appears to be any damage you might have to decide which you want more. the truth is that crayfish will become a food item in all likelyhood for that O when it gets bigger lol. if it makes it to that size.

can you show us a pic of them?

It is not a good idea to put animals with claws like crab and crayfish in with fish. There is always the risk of them grabbing you fish. If I was you I would rehome the crayfish
I can't get no sleep

the nice thing about the crayfish, water quailty is not really an issue for them lol. ive seen them come out of the most god aweful nasty black water you could think of and they thrive in it.
