Hi all

I have checked all my water levels and so far all is good. My Oscar seems to be lying abit on his side at the bottom of the water.. Breathing is slow but at times he moves around very slowly.
His normal behaviour being less than 2 years old is not how I have seen him, the last 2 days.

I think he mite have eaten a bad bout of feeding worms or ingested bad feeding food. All my feeding food is refrigerated as I have been directed by the Aqaurium shop.

Okayzz Can any1 give me a shout out. If he has had a bout of bad food what do I do.

if its over eaten it may just recover after a few days, you could try peas but most oscars won't eat them. If the food was bad or it has eaten something that wasn't good for it then its hope for the best I would say. There really isn't much anyone would be how to do. Oscars can become very greedy and eat more than they should, its a common problem other members have had too. they then have digestive trouble to ride themselves of all the food and become constipated. you say you tested your water can you post results of the atual test please. What has your oscar been eating other than worms? Also are you certain no weedkiller has been used in the garden where you got the worms from.?

is he getting enough oxygen into the water either by an air pump or by the filter causing ripples in the waters surface?

Thanks

I went to my local aquarioum and got some supplies and did a 40% water change and got some new food.
Cleaned the tanks water filter out again and did all ph levels and acidity, alkaline tests as well..

In the end I think he had some bad food. Thats my guess but his eating normally very alive and kicking and still on the backyard worms. But im amking sure they are washed with clean water..
ALL good
Thanks People

just want to check how did you clean your filtering system. most of the newcomer
commits mistake at this point.... cleaning the filtering media in tap water,
that may cause another ammonia and nitrite spike that stress the fish.

just want to know how did you cleaned it?

I was advised by the aquarium to get a bucket of the actual water in the tank from the top and use that to clean the filter out.. I didnt change any filters or plugs or anything.
I jus used the tank water and used my hands to clean out the inner part of the filter. Ive re-tested the nitrate and ph levels and all is well.

Is this All good

perfect... that is the way it should be done.

the common mistake is washing all filter media
in tap...killing all good bacteria and later will
wonder why the tank is cloudy and fishes sulking,
and eventually die. that is the reason why we normally
check how it was done especially if you had recent tank
problem.

now you are on the right track in Happy Fish Keeping.
enjoy it.....and probably post some pictures
