I'm not sure how it happened (maybe a fight with my Dempsey) but my Oscar has developed a sore on the inside of his lower lip. It seems to be keeping him from being able to eat the hard food (though he manages anyways).

Tank size: 125

Occupants: 2 Tiger Oscars (5 in) 1 Jack Dempsey (5.5 in) 1 Pleco (4 in)

Water Quality: Nitrates below 10, Nitrites Just a little on the high side (Newly added fish), pH normal, Temp 75, just did a 75% water change last week and a 20% yesterday.

I'm just wondering what some other people would do for this. Should I just let it take it's course, or treat it for a Bacterial Infection.

Hi, Your nitrites need to be 0, I would do a water change, of about 30% and make sure your water stays perfect! It should heal in no time!

Yeah, my nitrites are at about 3 or 4, i put a filter cartridge from my other cichlid tank(the one they used to be in) into the overflow to get some more bacteria growing so I'm thinking I'll go ahead and do a 30% tomorrow and by then they should be back down.

That sounds like a good plan! Do you happen to know what your ammonia is?

I all I have is a strip test right now, so no. (I'm trying get get a couple bucks together to get a master test kit)

That is a really good Idea! Let us know what you find out! And I would do a 25% w/c a day, until your nitrites are down!
