Checked on my fish earlier and about half of the tank seems to be sickly and not moving as much as normal. One of my parrots has white blotches on his fins and a few on his body that appear to be fungus. I treated with fungus rid but was wanting to know if I needed to remove the bio material from my HOB filters? Anything else I can do to make sure I don`t lose any of my fish? Thanks.

okay, NO!! Do not remove any biological media from your filter system. If you do this, you will not have any means of removing toxins from the water. If you have any carbon in your filter, remove this or this will remove the medication before it has a chance to work.

It certainly sounds like a fungal issue, carry on with the treatment and hopefully it should clear the fungus. What are your water parameters, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and PH?

Sorry, I should have put this in my water stats reply. The filter media in my HOBs have a little loose carbon in them. I can remove them and put in new filter media without carbon. Any way that would effect the amount of good bacteria in my tank? I will still have 4 bio containers full and a big sponge filter that have been in use 2 months.

Your water seems in good condition. I'm not familiar with your filter, however,I would replace any carbon with biological filtration if it is possible.

if you are going to use carbon its best to bag it that way its easy to remove. I would try to remove as much as you can of the carbon but leave the rest in place. the refill with new media.
