Three weeks ago the bottom of my 55 gallon breeder tank fell out. I set up a new tank of a similar size but I overfed the feeder fish that I put in there to cheer up my oscar fish- rookie mistake I am so upset at myself- add that to the new filter and I had an off the charts ammonia problem.

Through aggressive treatments and water changes I have it 70% cleared up. Tonight I noticed that my Oscar is really starting to feel better. His gasping has almost cleared up and he is starting to start back to his daily routine again. He has not eaten in about 4 days. I would like to start feeding him tomorrow. Any thoughts?

I am so upset about my mistakes and if he pulls through I have a bigger tank picked out. He is about 10 inches long and 4 years old. I have had crystal clear water and good luck in the two years I have had him. I never do feeder fish for him, but I thought he had been through so much with his old tank breaking.

Hi Hun, it will take 40days or so to cycle the new filter, keep going with your daily water changes, although 40% Should be enough.

You can also feed him but I would feed lightly and every other day is enough.

As for feeling bad, Don't... We all screw up at some point. Your doing right to fix it!
