not a big emergency, but my oscars seem to stay very very shy. i have 'm for quite a while now but every time i enter the room they duck away till there is few to no movement. they dont se any movement during the day tho as they are camping in my room.

othere than that, a food related question.
i went to the store to get a gamba. i chopped it up, and dropped it piece by piece in the tank... they dont like it. same for red mosquito, or all sorts of live food. the only thing they eat... is floating stuff or guppies. i'm kinda annoyed cuz i have like 2 kilo's of beefheart in the freezer and they dont eat anything then dried, floating food... the only way i sometimes can get 'm to eat a bit from lifefood is by throwing the chuncks straigt from the freezer into the water so it actually floats for a while...
is it bad that they dont get there amount of 'live' food?

I shouldn't worry about the Oscars being too shy, you need to hang around the tank a bit more and let them get used to you

Oscars are often very fussy eaters. I'm afraid that I can't give you a miracle cure to make your fish eat whatever you want them to. Sometimes they just will not eat a certain type of food. Oscars don't get hungry like mammals do so they can go for long periods of time without eating. You could try starving them for a few days and see if they will accept the food, if that doesn't work then you will just have to keep trying food until they find something they like.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with beef heart, this type of food is okay if you want to grow young fish, but there really isn't much nutritional value unless you are creating your own food packed with lots of vitamins etc. Even then, I'm not keen on feeding animal meat to fish, even though it is quite lean.

I agree with OFL. Beef heart is lean and can be very effective for growing young Oscars. This being said, a good cichlid pellet should be used. I recommend Hikari Gold(it has color enhancers). cichlid pellets should be your Oscars staple diet, making up roughly 80% of his/her daily diet. Oscars can also eat a variety of foods even vegetables, and some fruits. I feed Leo(my Oscar) 3 times per day. Pellets in the morning and 6 hours later in the afternoon. I then feed him a final time 6 hours later either beef heart or pellets. Depends on the day. Every other day his evening meal is beef heart. Leo is still young(6 months) therefore he eats plenty. As your oscar ages his need to eat will decrease, to once a day or even every other day. Hope this helped!
