Sorry to start another thread but this is worrying me!

This is the same fish with the really bad popeye in one eye. I just noticed her shaking. On closer inspection blood is randomly coming out of her gills.

To me that seems very serious but I'm no fish expert.

Could the eye have ruptured on the inside?

I'm no expert, but fysiologically it wouldt be possible.
I suppose the pressure would become less, and same with the protrusion.
Is that so?
Is the eye bulging less than before?
Wonder what the experts will say.
Man, this must be some stressfull time for you...

The eye looks the same to me. No blood has come out since but she's still shaking every now and again. Otherwise she seems to be acting normally. She's very pale as well.

I think I need to make a decision now. One gill has been clamped shut for ages and she's just gone beserk thrashing and mouth wide open and the the gill has started working again.

There must be something else other than just popeye wrong with her.

I'm afraid I couldn't watch her like that any longer. She was obviously in distress so I've chosen to euthanise her.

I've double checked the other fish and they all still look and are acting ok. Should I treat the tank again with anything just in case?

I think popeye does not transfer to the other fish.
I would only finish any treatment you started.
Do you intend to use clove oil?
It may be a hard decision, but only you can judge if she's suffering too much.
Wish you all the strenght you need.

I've gone for the quick blow to the head method which has worked. Such a shame, she was a gorgous fish. I will get another oscar. Might pop to my lfs this week and see if they still have any young ones left.

Shame things didn't work out.
She suffers no more.
With O's it's like with puppys, if you go to check them out, you'll probably end up with one when you go home!
Exciting!

Just glad I don't get too emotionally attached to fish. Had a cat die painfully a few years ago from tumours, have to admit that did bring tears to my eyes. Fish I can cope with thank fully.

May even pop to the lfs today!

sorry to hear that. if its any consolation only a few wks ago suffered a jaw injury. it to had an injury to the inside gill and was bleeding at one point. I lost mine a few wks later so think you done the right thing. I hate seeing any animal in pain and not have any chance of recovery. I should have finished mine off rather than hope for it to recover. you never know how things will turn out.

Sorry to hear about your fish. However, I think you have done the right thing by him/her. I'm sorry that we were not able to give you enough help to be able to cure the fish.
