My fish have a really bad case of hole in the head and I've researched treatment for them and so far I think I've found as much as I'm going to find. One of my fish is allot worse than the others and I would like to start him on an antibiotic, I consulted my vet and he prescribed it for me, but I just had a few more questions I couldn't find the answers for. Should I still run the Bio Wheel during the treatment and should I be doing water changes through the treatment? Anything else you think I should know before treatment would be greatly appreciated as well! Thanks!

You can still run the bio wheel but if any of your filter have carbon simply remove the carbon.
Did you get the metro in tablet form?
You can also give the oscar the stuff oraaly with premixed fron food (like the beefheart recipe) its 100mg per table spoon of frozen food. Treatment from memory is best given over 2 weeks then give a two week break to rest the oscars kidneys.

You can also do both orally and treatment in the water, I would do a 40% water change b4 treatment and wait 2 weeks to do another.... The dose for water is 250mg per 10 us gallons (40litres aprox).

Hope this helps

Don't forget to do large water changes(before adding the meds). If the meds don't cut it add some ammochips or biozyme to help lower the ammonia levels. I don't have any expierance with HITH meds( i usually just do large WC, but really if you upkeep the tank well HITH shouldn't be that big of a problem.

Good Luck,
Art

ammo chips ettc are not needed IMO

They play havic with the cycle of the tank and can do more damage than anything else.

All you need to learn is easy to learn tank husbandry skills etc

Hope he gets better,

Oh, i assume your oscar has a secondary infection? The only, and i mean the only cure to HITH is large water changes, and guess what? Clean water. Metronidazole only treats infections that are caused by the HITH. Unless your oscar has an infection, the medicene will have little or no effect. The best cure as i previously stated is clean water.

Well the fish weren't in my possession for a little while and that's how they ended up this bad. Right now I'm trying to fix mistakes that were made They are now at my place and I did a 100% water change a few days ago when "re homing" them, but the sores on one of their heads were really big and traveling towards the rest of his body and the other fish were picking on him because they knew he wasn't well. I started treatment last night and he seems to be a little bit better, he isn't hiding in the corner and he sometimes swims with the other fish again

Please read my post titled "HITH might be fatal, Water help!" Both my tiger Oscars have HITH one is very severe, but I got some good advice.

Also, I posted a pic & some info on the meds I gave them under another HITH post by davidsumner1977.

Wish you the best with them
