As I have said, I was really excited when I bought a new (used) aquarium so my fish could have a bigger home. But now that I have the tank here I seen something questionable so I pulled up the plastic trim around the bottom of the tank and found the glass was cracked.

The glass does not seem to have cracked near the seal but what I am worried about is the pressure once it is full. Is it safe to relive pressure in that area and still use it? I'm just wondering what other people think, as this was a b-day gift to myself and am really bummed out.

That sucks Hun, I am so sorry. But is that on the bottom? or on the side?

Right now the tank is up-side down, so that crack is on the bottom corner. The crack is on the large side plate.
Also, looking at the pics they do seem worse than thay are, but still, I'm really concerned. The part where the bottom meets the side plate is fine on the inside and is only missing about a millimeter of glass on the outside. the major glass loss is where the side plates were lower than the bottom. if that makes any sense.?

The best advice I can give you is to fill that area full of silicon, allow it to dry completely, and then water test it. I would water test it somewhere safe. Outside is best so you don't end up with all that water on your floor.

Good Luck Hun!

Thanks, I'll try it. I'm thinking more and more it's a loss though. It's winter here and all I have is a balcony to test it on. I might sell it as a reptile terrarium. Ah fart.

Personally I don't know if I would risk it...especially if you can't fill it up outside somewhere...I just worry about the cracks spreading and then the glass giving out from the stress...sorry man...that kind of sucks! If you had someplace you could fill it like outside or maybe someones basement where it wouldn't damage anything and had a floor drain nearby you could always try it...just silicone the hell out of if in that area first and give it a go.

Otherwise like you said, you could always sell it to someone with a lizard or something and at least get some cash out of it...i'm guessing it would get snatched up pretty quickly if you decided to do that.

if it is a chip on the corner, and on the side wall, i wouldn't worry much.
does the chip give gap inside between the three panels, short panel, bottom
panel, and wide side panel? if not, just fill it with silicon or epoxy and
you will be fine. just put some reinforced sealant inside on that corner

if you click on the pics to make them larger it almost looks like the tank was dropped on its corner and that whole corner is cracked up...unless its just the picture that makes it look that way...

thanks for the reminder...based on the damage, it will not compromise the integrity
of the glass panel itself...plus the inner wall is still intact, thus putting some
reinforcement sealant will make sure it will not leak at all. that chipped was cause
by unbalance lowering of the tank.
