I have been fighting ich on and off for nearly a month. My 2 Parrots are the only ones getting sick; my Oscar and Jack D have seemly not been affected. I have read the article on the home page and have followed the directions. I slowly raised my temp and have treated with meds(formallin and meth. green). I have even treated well after the symptoms are gone. Could I be reinfecting my tank thru my syphon I clean and fill with? Any other ideas.

Have you checked your water as some medications can damage your biological filter. I know methylene blue can, I'm not entirely sure about methylene green but it would be worth checking. Can you elaborate on what you mean about infecting your tank again with the siphon, do you mean is there any residue of parasites left in the hose?

When you raised your temperature, how long do you leave it like this for? Also, what temperature did you raise your water to ?

I don't know if that could be the case, but I can advise to give your hoses a good flush before using them.
I do that every time just the keep the water in the hose from getting into my tank.
i thought ich was only transferred by living organisms...

The meds I am using say the are not supposed to hurt bio material. I raised tank temp to 85 for about 3 days while I was still treating. I was asking if any water or residue left in my cleaning hose could it harbor the ich?

did you remove your carbon filtration before you applied your medications?

When I first got an aquarium many yrs ago (that makes me sound old ))) I had the same problem. my fish got ich I treated it, it went and a few wks it was back. I traced the problem to my water changes. I did not heat the new water to the tank temp. when I put the new water in the tank, the tank temp dropped, the fish got stressed and the ich came back. I started heating the new water and never had a case since. if you can't heat new water add it very slowly and check the tank temp doesn't drop. it could be the answer. do you have a mixer tap or do you fill just using the cold tap??
