I found the forum because i have a sick Oscar and I have been following the steps on here on how to treat it, changed his diet, up the water temp to 80ish be checking water perams like crazy and there fine now I have some Jungle hole n head guard here I'm following the directions and it says 1 teaspoon to every 5 gallons i have a 45G tank it seems like a lot of powder to be putting in the tank any thoughts has anyone used it anything i should be aware of when using this medication?

how severe is the infection. if it is just early sign or just starting, a huge
water change will do.... i have no experience yet with jungle guard but i suggest
you dissolve it in a bucket before pouring into the tank. or you may opt to drop
it the discharge point gradually until the whole dosage is attained.

I concur with Paul on the mixing the jungle guard inyo a pitcher or bucket before administering it.

well my oscar is about 6" long I first started noticing it about 3 weeks ago, his holes are on his gill line has a total of about 4-5 they are clean nothing coming from them, I did a big water change about a week ago and have been doing 30% changes every day checking the water before and after changes and they are superb I don't know how long it will take to notice any healing but nothing in a week so far I also changed his diet today to Hikari cichlid gold, water temps at 80F I believe this is good? I have also added an air stone His tank mates are a 5"female jack and a 5" red tailed shark the get along fine.

Sounds like you have taken proper action.

Are you sure its HITH and not sensory pits. If you are not sure then type sensory pits into the search on this site. If it is HITH then poor water quality is usually the cause, can you test your water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and post the actual results please

That is HITH and your water is good

No one really knows what HITh is but fish with weakenend immune systems get it. Poor water can be a cause, as can stress. Old fish can get it. Some think old carbon in the filter might be a cause

The best thing for you to do is remove any carbon in the filter and replace with bio media and keep your water as best as you can with low nitrates (most agree nitrates need to be below 20 but lower is better) and this means lots and lots of water changes. HITH can take a long time to cure but we had successes on here. Yours in not an advanced case. Good luck and keep us posted

Well hes getting worse... Lost his apatite yesterday and is developing a few more holes, water is good, no carbon in the tank for over 2 weeks, clean filter, water changes 30% every 2 days, followed the jungle HITH medication directions... I don't know what to do

hi, the meds may be the cause of your o not eating.
I think you are doing all you can.
Like delboy said, his immune system may be affected.
Keep up with the waterchanges, and i couldn't tell you about the meds, never used them.
Cleanest water should heal HITH, even without meds,imo.
Hope he pulls through, fingers crossed.

thanks yah i think i'm done with the meds now it seems like a garbage rip off to me
