I had 2 3" GT's and they were light green when i got them with a really fiant blue on. You had to get really close to see it. They were unactive and just sat in the corner. I went to my LFS and he said maybe adding new fish might help. So I bought some 'Assorted Cichlids' They are african by the looks of it. Defiantly a few of them are. The Gt's have been really active since and started eating.
There side blue patterns has come out really well now on the mouth. They havent developed it on the side yet.

My problem is that one of the GT's has turned a really really dark green. Its green lines down the side have turned really dark but the blue is still there whereas the other is still the light green and has alot more blue. He Is getting a slight gold trim on his fins, only a few dots but the other brighter GT looks more of a whiter trim.

Is he ill? I will try get pics.

I take it the fish are still active? Still eating? Have you tested your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and pH? If not, please do so, a photograph would be great

The GT's are the most active fish in the tank. They are always together and swimming around all the time. They come to the front when I go near the tank, they shoot from one end of the tank to the other for food. They ALWAYS accept food, even if its different from what they are used to! The blue is alot darker on one as well. I will try and get a picture now. I am waiting for my friend to come round tomorow with his media camera. Mine is just a low grade digital haha.

im not 100% sure on this but the lighter one looks an awefully like a juvenile blue acara (Aequidens pulcher) to me. it will be easier to tell when they grow a little more.

the differences between the Aequidens' sp. Goldsaum and the Aequidens rivulatus green terror are slight and hard to pinpoint if you dont have both species in front of you. on will have a green scale edged in black while the other has a black scale edged in green.

the Aequidens rivulatus is a rather rare fish in the hobby and can be quite difficult to find. unless you got your fish from a reputable dealer and they had it listed as a green terror Aequidens rivulatus then most likely you got a Aequidens' sp. gold saum.

both are great fish and will a nice addition to any tank provided they cohabitate well with their tankmates.
