my little memo comited suicide this past saturday. he was a 6'' red. found him on the floor in the morning. i wonder why do fish jump out like that? i have a glass cover, its abit heavy. there is only a an opening on the back thats about an inch an a half. the water was fine. 0 0 10. temp 77. he was healthy and active and getting along with moska, 6'' tiger so why would he do that?

Sorry for your loss.. I lost one that way also,but smaller..I don't think they are realy trying to get out, but what do I know? maybe he saw a piece of food..

my mom thinks it was cus the water level was high? its a lil bit over the bottom of the top rim.....i wouldnt think so???

A lot of fish will jump like that...in the wild they would jump up to catch bugs to eat. Like stated above he might have seen something that he thought was food and tried jumping for it. Sorry for your loss though

Fish do indeed look for food everywhere.
They will jump if they think something is edible.
Plus they will jump when spooked.
My O kept jumping lately after i did a wc.
Turned out there was a bit of ducttape loose above the waterlevel...
They're just curious and cannot oversee the risk of jumping.

On the other hand fish will jump if waterquality is bad.
Esp. catfish and plecos will try to bail a tank, and will look for a different environment if conditions are bad.
But your water is fine so that only leaves the first 2 options.

thanks everyone. i did find me another o. i looked around town and found panchito, his name. he is a 8'' tiger. he was the one found most rescuable, the others didint look good, some where really starved, their head and eyes was alot bigger then their body. one was dyed...a ''lemon'' lutino. panchito looks fine. hes got a lil bit of hith, so hopefully now that he is in good water he will get better, daddy will patch him up thanks again, have a good one.
