my Oscar once had a hole in his head to the bone , i thought it was hole it the head, luckily after a few days it started to heal. they sometimes chase other fish and swim into the decorations. its most probably that or hole in the head.

that sounds odd.
Can you post a pic, to show us exactly what the injury is?
that would help.
Any sharp objects in the tank, that he may have run into?
HITH will not develop over night., so an injury is more likely.

Strange, but it could be he broke his Gillplate due to trashing about.
But we should wait for the experts to chime in with advice.
I'm a bit at a loss here.
Is he still eating?
Is there any other change in behaviour?
Is your O still using the damaged side of his gills?

Can it still open its mouth?
are the gills still moving both sides?
Are there other fish/oscars in the tank?

I would guess similar to noddy, dislocated jaw or broken jaw. i take it from the pic the gill stays permanent open like in the pic? If its dislocated it may need helping back into place? a vet would be the best bet, if you can find one that has good knowledge of fish. do you know any fishermen that know how to handle fish? they may be how to take a look and work out what wrong?

last thought any chance a large stone could have got stuck? gravel?

To be quite honest I'm not really seeing much in the photograph you have provided so if you can get a slightly better one that might help. Did this injury just appear suddenly? I'm trying to ascertain whether this is just an injury, or something else.

Please also provide your water parameters, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and pH

Is it like that all the time or do the gills open and close. When my oscar opens his gills i can see the red inside. Can you take a video of him so we can see his gills and how they move
