Hi ppl, i have two 9 inch oscars, an albino and tiger, raised them from 1 inch long but only on pellets. and it looks too me as if they are getting bored off the same old meal, so could some1 give me some advice on what other things i could feed them without disrupting there eating patterns.
Thanks all love this site man its so helpful.

Yep don't think it's unusual if you have fed them that long on just pellets,
bloodworms seems to be the fav' buy them frozen in cubes and defrost,
also if you look round other posts you can give them plenty of treats,
i use peeled garden peas (they spit the skin otherwise and make a nice mess)
i also give mine frozen shrimps, pieces of cucumber, but as i said for main food bloodworms should help.

There are loads of food you can feed to oscars. Some things are maggots, earthworms(oscars love these), meal worms, muscles, prawns (i feed defrosted frozen ones), any insect you can find and peas to name some. The important thing is to vary the diet. I would feed them pellets at least 3 times a week and it dont do any harm not to feed one day a week (keeps them hungry and less fussy)

That about sums it up. They'll try to eat any insect they can fit in their mouths and even some that don't.

I always was the dirt off of the worms... I don't know if you have to, but I don't want the dirt in my tank!

Wash the worms before feeding and if you want to be real fussy, cut the end off the worms and run your finger along the worm to remove the dirt in the worm. I dont bother doing this, any dirt in the worm will be expelled through your oscars gills. this dirt will end up in the substrate which you will remove when doing a gravel/sand clean
