Hello all, I'm new here and so far I like your forum guys.
I've lost one of my Oscars when I came home and noticed that he was fully covered by some white stuff, it didn't look like fungus, it looked like a cotton that covered his whole body within minutes. I ran to the store where I got fungus cure, but it was too late I think.
After about a month I bought this guy in a video and it seems like the same situation is happening now. He starts having this white stuff on his head and along the body. Sometimes he swims and suddenly shakes his whole body, feeling like something bothers him. His fins are clumped sometimes.
Please check the video and help me out, I don't want to loose another adorable fish.
Have you been carrying out any tank maintenance, i.e. water changes, filter cleaning?
Finally, can you please test the water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and PH.
Slime on the skin can be caused by various factors. Toxins in the water can force the fish to develop a slime coating, I think it's possibly the fishes defensive mechanism. Also, parasitic and bacteria infections can also cause slime.
I will not be on the game until tomorrow (Saturday), very late here in the UK. I'm sure someone else will help you out in the meantime, but it is absolutely imperative that you test your water, we are not really able to help you until we know the condition of your water and if indeed there are any toxins present.
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

X2 with OFL. a water test is needed. I stopped the video at 38-40sec and noticed it looks a little lumpy? parasites maybe but will need that water test result asap. its not normal anyway so something isn't right.
