i have 2 oscars and 1 of them seems to have shaded areas of black on the bottom of his fins ,whereas before they looked torn. is it a disease?

oscars change colors and shades depending on their mood,water conditions and growth.

mine lose all their color and go completely pale when i do a water change.

if you could post yr water tests readings and maybe a photo we would probably be able to help u more accuratly.

How big are your oscars? My oscar often changes colour, eg when scared he goes a lighter colour. Sometimes he gets moody and goes darker, espacially on the fins!

Its hard to fly like an eagle when you are surrounded by turkeys

A picture would be a great help, it may be a fungus or it may be because of fighting. Oscar often have a black end to their fin so it may be normal

How long have you had them, how big are they, how big is the tank and what are your water test readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate
