Sounds like a swim bladder problem. I'm not real familiar with this but I'm sure others will chime in. Don't euthanize him yet there is more than likely a solution to your problem. I did a search on Google for "swim bladder disease" and came up with quite a few links. Hang in there I'm sure someone can help.

Yeah, swim bladder was my first thought too, since it's the organ that helps them keep their balance and enables them to swim at different water levels. As I understood it, floating would mean there's too much air in the swim bladder while the opposite would be they sit on the ground and have trouble getting to the top.
Is it eating still? I seem to remember people recommend feeding deshelled peas in case of an inflated swim bladder, but no experience with that myself.
I also read about punctuating the swim bladder but would definitely leave that to a vet, and you might end up with a so called "belly slider" then.
Hope someone else can tell you more, and crossing fingers he recovers!
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

There is a treatment for swim bladder disease, so try that. Interpet do one and im sure there are others makes

I know someone who keeps koi etc. She said she had a fish that was always upside down and it didnt right itself after a few days, so what she did was trap the fish such that it was up the right way and couldnt move (without squashing it off course and allowing water to flow thro). The next day she released it from it trap and it was fine. It may have been coincidence but it worked for her. If the swim bladder treatment dont work try trapping it on the bottom with some rocks or something substantial. You might want to try this before you euthanise the fish.

Happy New Year, wohoo! That's wonderful news

Maybe the bass rhythms made him burp, hey? (or fart?)
Anyway, very glad to hear that, it's scary to see a fish floating like that.
I shall try Smashin Pumpkins ... although I have no sick fish, but maybe it helps with cleaning the house!

Ack, I thought he was swimming normally again like all the time. But at least some progress.
Maybe that on his side is from floating with that area being out of the water?

An improvement is a good thing. Hope it continues, keep up with or start the swim bladder treatment
