I have a 7 inch oscar and he has been quiet active ever since we got him 6 months ago, but from last 3 days his apetite has decreased and he hardly eats..earlier he used to eat 10-12 hikari pellets in one go now he hardly eats 3-4. He looks healthy otherwise, no marks of any injury or wound, he just has this small white mark on his pelvic fin..earlier I thought its ick but then I read online that ick is scattered on whole body and the fish will rub or scratch her body on gravel, but this white mark on my oscar body is restricted to only one particular area on pelvic fin and I have never seen his scratching or rubbing him against gravel or rocks.

We just have one 1 oscar in 36 gallon tank and we tested all water parameters and everything looks fine. We do 25% water change and gravel vac once a week. Yesterday we got different kind of pellets for him as we thought me may be he is bored eating same pellets again and again, but he dint eat much of those new pellets as well. So we are a bit worried now, can anyone suggest what can it be and how can it be treated?

try him with cooked peeled prawns or frozen bloodworm....its quite common for oscars to do exactly what you have explained yous is doing ,,,,,he may even stop eating all together for a while ....please dont worry about him yet and do not add anything to your tank to try to treat him ....

Or try some mealworms or earthworms...with the risk of spoiling your fish, like my red.
He refused pellets for over a year and suddenly started liking the pellets again.
He only ate mealworms in between.
Mine just refuses the food from time to time and i know mine wants a change in diet.

I agree with BGH... Try those foods or a big night crawler. Oscars love worms.

And give him a few days... They often get picky about food.

When you say the water parameters are fine can you post the actual results so we can be sure thery are ok.

Also i hope you know that a 36g is not big enough for a full sized oscar

My tiger oscar has stopped eating since yesterday, he was not eating properly few weeks back and thats when we got bloodworms for him and he loved those and started eating again..but since yesterday he is not eating anything...neither Hikari pellets nor Bloodworms. I feel that he is in stress as day before yesterday during night he suddenly started hitting the gravel and we had to switch the light on and see whats going on ( this happened once earlier also during night and later I realised that he gets scared when some shadow falls on his tank during night)...but everything looked fine and yesterday afternoon he hit himself in the filter and due to that the filter broke and fell in the tank, he looks quiet frightened after that, we do not have any other fish in the tank and he lives alone. He has been a very healthy and active fish all these months, and right now also he looks fine as he swims actively and we cannot see and injury or any infection on his body, we also checked all water parameters yesterday and everything is under control.

May be he is just under stress as that filter broke and we had to rearrange everything in the tank and repair the filter, or may be there is something that we are not able to understand...so if anyone has been through a similar situation then would appreciate some advice or suggestions.

hi maybe he is lonely, ive heard single oscars like a 55 gallon tank or more, maybe you could get a bigger tank, and put a friend in for him, maybe a silver dollar,

Do a water test and post ur results swati and someone will point u in the right direction.

never heard of oscars getting lonely, iv found mine prefer being on their own! lol there so differant tho i bet it chances from fish 2 fish whether they can stand company or not
