welcome to the site. sorry it is not during your best time...
to help you evaluate the condition, can you brief us on the following:
1) how long the tank had been set up?
2) what size of tank? what filtration are you using?
3) do you have some other fish?
4) can you post water parameter :ammonia? nitrite? nitrate? pH? temp?
5) feeding info?

welcome to the site, I am just sorry it is not under better circumstances.

Apart from what Paul has already asked you for, a photograph would also be helpful

Thanks for the help,

tank has been step up for approx 6 years, I have 1 sucker fish with him and a small breeding tanking connected to the large tank that has mollys and feeder fish in it they share the same water. I that tested Ph is 7.6, nitrate 0 and ammonia 0 all good as is the temp 25.

I have a 4ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft - with ehiem canister filter rated for bigger tank.

We have notice spider web like substance coming off the white thing protruding from his bum. someone suggested a swollen reproductive gland.

Also we have recently added snails to the tank which he has been eating the babies, he is still hungry and whats to eat, but I am trying to stick to frozen pea, which he does not like.

I have treated the water one week ago with worm tablets, but I am not seeing an improvement, however his mood improved, as before I treated the water he was floating around on his side not very happy, now he is acting more himself but lump is growing white thing still there. I am going to try and load a photo but not sure really how so hang in there with me.

wow! 6 years is a long experience already. some people may say you are
already a seasoned fish keeper. kindly re-check your nitrate, for an
establish tank, it could not be zero.

without the picture, the way you describe it, your o seems to have
parasite infection. there is no way a reproductive organ will protrude
that long....

in posting picture, please use photobucket, image shack, yahoo flickr
and the like as a host and just copy paste the link here.

I don't know if that worked but I created an album with pictures can you see them in my profile ??

Yeah he is old that is why I will be very sad if I lose him. So do you suggest that I keep treating the water ?? do I keep feeding him, because I am worried about him not being able to expel with the obstruction.

I will re- check nitrate and advise.

it seemingly similar to your case.

Okay I have tested the water nitrate is definately 0.00 I did two tests they both came up trumps.

Could he have damaged himself from eating the snails ??

if i remember it right, the other member treated his fish against constipation
and it didn't work. if you have another tank that can be used as hospital tank, you
may try treating it against parasite like something jungle ...
