I have 2 Oscars both about a year old one is about 11" and the other is about 9.5-10". The smaller Oscar Was being picked on by the bigger one. This is unusual for them. They have been together since babys. After 2 days of this abuse I start seeing serious wounds around the eye and upper mouth. I did a tank change and rearranged the tank to try and stop the possible territory issue. The larger one would not let up so I moved him to there old tank for temp. As soon as I did my little Oscar started swimming like it was happy day, but the next day I notice a white opaque fluffy substance all over where the wounds are.

I know there is something wrong, but I can't pinpoint it. I don't want to treat the wrong thing.

Nicki Sue has been kind enough to help me, She recommend some more input. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
Sol

Sounds like a secondary fungal infection. Try some fungal remedy, hopefully that might work

That is a secondary fungal, but the root problem looks to me like HITH and not fight wounds.

The cotton fungus (columnaris) is what I have discovered so far. I purchased a Jungle brand fungus Elininator. I hope that helps, along with another 25% water change.

Perfect water conditions is somewhat tough. I do not have aduquite filltration. I plan on getting a canister for the tank.

That sounds Great Hun! Do you have any idea when you plan on adding a canister? I can recommend a GREAT CHEAP canister.

Here is the link.
I have 3 of these and I love them!

definetly a fungual infection on your oscar. imho the first thing you need to do is to cure the fungus. jungle brand fungus cure is a reliable treatment and should do the trick as long as you use it as per the intructions.

after that is done then we can assess the damage and see if it is hith or fighting damage.

reguarless of what the primary is caused by you will need to keep your water in top form in order for it to heal. pristine water should have a reading of 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and a nitrate reading 20 or lower. this is a must if you want your fish to heal completly.

as for having your tanks underfiltered this is a problem that will need to be remedied soon.

and getting to the fighting problem this could be caused by cramped conditions(too small of a tank) water problems or since they are nearing the age of sexual maturity then you might have 2 males in which case they will most likely never get along. if this is the case then you will need to rehome one of them or get yourself another suitable tank with proper filtration.

hope some of this helps.................
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

two days after fighting could not turn ou to be like this.
my o's fights too and muscle on his cheek had been detached but
never become like this. it may crater-in in the next few days

i believe aside from bullying, there lies secondary infection, not only
fungi but a severe one.... it looks like ulcer to me or fish tuberculosis

I did see the fish fighting and causing that damage. These pics of the fish are a few days after the seperation even. That is when I noticed the fungus, but the wounds were from fighting. They did fight for like 3 days before I split them up.

I am treating him/her now and will do a tank test this morning.
Does the medication effect the test?

The meds should not affect the water readings...

When you test the water, please test both tanks. Thanks
