Hi
I have 5 ocars in a 6'x2', 4 of these are great, but two weeks ago 1 was sitting on the bottom of the tank. Was taken out put into a small hoisptal tank was treated with multi cure for two weeks and daily water change. She didnt have strength to swim up to feed so i feed her live yabbies that got her strength up to swim to the top for floating food, but she would sink straight away. She is now back in the main tank but still has the sinking thing going on. Have read that it could be swim bladder and should not feed her for a bit then put her on a pea diet. She still looks bright. What do i do? I dont want to loose her. Had her now for 5 years is part of the family. Please Help
Karen

hi maybe you can try maracyn two, as it sounds like a swim bladder infection, move it back to the hospital tank, try cooked peas given every second day, for 14 days , if this doesnt help try the medicine maracyn two, , i looked this up for you, as ive no real knowledge, so up to you good luck xxx

It sounds like you have a swim bladder problem. Unfortunately swim bladder problems can be difficult to cure. You can buy a treatment for it so try that (dont forget to remove any carbon in filters)

Have you tested your water in the main tank, if not can you test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Also was/is your hospital tank cycled?

Seeing as you have 5 oscars, have you had any aggression in the tank as sometimes a fish can get injured causing swim bladder problems

Hi All

Thank You all. This is a great site.
The hosiptal tank was 50% main tank 50% fresh. As for the fighting they are not to bad there. They dont pick on her, she is able to swim where she likes with no problems. I'll go to my local FS and ask the boys for some treatment for siwm bladder.
Thanks again.
Karen

In my hosiptal tank i use a sponge filter as it is not used very often, the LFS said that is fine as i'm doing daily water change. The sponge filter is used in the main tank too and then just moved over to the hosiptal.
On a happier note she is getting better slowly had a hard time trying to catch her to move her back to hosiptal.
