my 9 inch red oscar has just thrown him self out of the tank onto a hard wood floor,top of the tank is about 5ft and he must of gone a foot in the air.hes got big lumps out of him and it looks like some gill tissue is hanging away i think it was the half dozen flails on the floor that smacked it out of him.got him back in tank with towel but hes just sat on the bottom breathing heavy could he survive?is there anything extra i can do for him?,gutted for the little guy just setting up his new 6ft

Hi and Welcome..

You should keep a close eye on him, most times they recover fine, and this is quite common for Oscars..

Just to be on the safe side, I would do a 30% water change for him. and then just let him be for a while!

put him back and cross your fingers. Keep an eye out for any infections from any cuts or abrasions

I had one do the same, the day after a friend looked at my fish an said, "they don't look like the ones in a pet shop, yours look so clean, no split fins or marks" next day it jumped out, it didn't look like it was going to live but pulled through ok. it took a few months for all the marks to repair.

You might want to add some aquarium salt into the tank. Does wonders on healing process.
