TOPIC: eye issues, kinda worried

eye issues, kinda worried 2 years ago #93557

i have a new tank. its about 9 months old. started off with three o's, about two months in i took out one. he is a long fin and he was getting really bullied. anyway. i have a canister fluval 304, with bio, peat, and ammonia remover. no carbon, pulled carbon due to prevention with 'hith'. also have over the back "wisper", and a power head filter, levels have been really consistent. never had any real problems, until about two weeks agon i notice a cloudy ness around there eyes. i did normal premtive strikes, water change, raise temp, add vitamin and added salt. they did not respond to it and three days ago i did over 50% waterchange and removed gravel. i really think that i shocked them bad. but about 12hours after all that they were back to them self. no change in there eye until today, one oscar has a blood petrussion hanging. levels are still good. not sure what to do. i do have pics just need to figure out how to load them. thanks for help. pics www.oscarfishlover.com/social-network/ph...id=241#photoid=1087.

Hi Hun, and Welcome!

Can you please post EXACT water readings for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and PH?

Most eye problems are caused either from aggression, or from poor water quality...

I am also wondering how big of a tank you have?

You have all 4 in a 55 gallon tank? with a 304 filter?

That in itself will cause problems... You need 55 gallons PER Oscar, so you are looking at a 210 gallon tank, then you will need double filtration.. So you need a filter rated for 420 gallon tank! They are cramped, and unless you are doing 50% water changes 3 times a week, in between water changes your water has to be a mess...

Please look either to get a bigger tank and filter NOW, or rehome all but one.

they are about 4-5 in. each, they will be in a bigger tank very shortly. i have done 15% every week. and just got rid gravel. one oscar by himself and two are together.

Cloudy eyes are usually a bacterial infection. The most common causes are fighting or poor water quality.

You need a nitrate test kit ASAP

The treatment is any anti bacterial that will treat popeye. Follow the instructions properly
