my female oscar keeps jumping out the tank and smashing into the lid.

its been going on for a month or so

on thurday morning at 0030 it manged to open the lid and land on the floor about 4 feet away from the tank. i put her back in the tank and shes fine. (got a big wooden choping board on the lid know)

water prams are fine and have been every week. no new additons to the tank. nothing changed.shes much at all (may be 1-2 large pellets). i have tryed changing food from there staple pellets to prawns, heart and feeder didnt even bother with the feeders

seems strange. any idears

Without having to trace all you posts, How big of a tank is she in? And can you please post your Exact water readings?

I would guess you just need to keep the lids weighted down so she can't open them!

OK Hun, Your tank is only about 80 US gallons, that is nowhere near big enough. Especially if you have other fish. (I looked at your profile) And your water readings tell me you need to do a water change as you should NOT have ammonia or nitrites. It could be that your filter is not big enough to cope with the massive bioload... We recommend a filter rated for 2X the tank volume. So you need a filter rated for a MINIMUM of 160 gallons!

My red used to bash the lid and even knocked himself out once.
This was due to being spooked and attacked by my Vieja at night.

I had to rehome the Vieja.
Mind you, fish in smaller tanks will more easily spook eachother...

weighing down the lids or locking them may be your only option, until you can get an upgrade.
But knocking themselves out on a closed lid is a better option than a oscar going skydiving!
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
